At the beginning of the 1939-40 school year, the 60 students of the junior novitiate (high schoolers) of the legacy New York District assembled for their group photograph. Within the same huge building in Barrytown, NY, was the novitiate for the New York District. The entire complex was known officially as St. Joseph’s Normal Institute.

The photograph received the unusual title of “Mobilization of a Different Kind” was a reference to the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany in September 1939 at the beginning of World War II.
