At the beginning of the 1939-40 school year, the 60 students of the junior novitiate (high schoolers) of the legacy New York District assembled for their group photograph. Within the same huge building in Barrytown, NY, was the novitiate for the New York District. The entire complex was known officially as St. Joseph’s Normal Institute.
The photograph received the unusual title of “Mobilization of a Different Kind” was a reference to the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany in September 1939 at the beginning of World War II.
What happened to Brother Gabriel the director of the Barrytown novitiate in the 1960s?
Brother Albinus Gabriel Dougherty worked from La Salle School, Albany. When he passed away in 2001, I believe he is buried with other Brothers in a cemetery in Menands. I admired him much, as a teacher in the juniorate 1953-1954 and as director of Hillside Hall 1955-1956.

My father is in that picture. He passed in 1986. Are there any other photos available from that time?
