Meet the Artist: Kate Paterson
De La Salle College “Oaklands”
Toronto, Ontario Canada
Age 15 | Grade 10
Visual Art Teacher: Cristina Miceli
Kate Paterson, is a grade 10 student at De La Salle “Oaklands” campus, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She has attended Del for almost 4 years and her favorite subjects are Visual Art, English, and Science. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing digital sketches which she feels help her to broaden her artistic abilities. She considers cartooning and pencil sketches, particularly shading, to be her strengths. When Kate is not drawing, she enjoys skating, horror movies, reading fictional novels, playing badminton, and gaming on her new Nintendo Switch.
Kate came to De La Salle in grade 7 and says that the school has helped her discover a new passion for art and grow as an artist, “It is thanks to the amazing programs and classes that the school has to offer and the support from my teachers, that has molded me into the person and artist I am today. We all have hidden potential, and Del has helped me uncover mine.” Kate says that her Christmas card design was inspired by last year’s winner, from the same school.
Her intent was to create a Christmas card that was unique from past entries, demonstrated the theme, “The Prince of Peace” and represented the true meaning of Christmas. Kate’s teachers are very proud of her and know that she will continue to create meaningful and impactful works of art, throughout her school career and beyond.
