Dear Lasallians,
What awe we share to have this summer filled with available vaccines, increased activity, and hope! Endless thanks to the scientists, front line workers (including educators), and people of good will who have brought us to this moment.
As I conclude my term as Visitor, I want to express my humble gratitude for the privilege and opportunity to be of service on behalf of our extraordinary mission. This mission continues to strengthen, deepen and grow, evidenced by what has just happened in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. On August 1st, Colegio De La Salle, which has been a vital part of the District of Antilles-South Mexico, fittingly transferred to now be part of the District of Eastern North America (DENA). Bienvenido a todos.
Our District is very blessed that Br. Robert Schaefer, FSC, will begin his service as the third Visitor of DENA. As he concludes five years of service internationally, we have welcomed him back this summer as he prepares for the joy, opportunities, and challenges that await him and his leadership team in enabling all our ministries to do all they can to guide the young entrusted to their care into the future.
In the 2019 publication, Lasallian Formation for Mission: The Pilgrim’s Handbook, we read, “The best strategy for facing the various challenges of the future is formation.” This energetic, cheerful, visionary Brother will be sure to invite all to further formation. For the sake of the mission, we need YOU to be open and ready for increased Lasallian formation yourself.
Thanks to Patrick Donahue and his team for keeping the communication among our constituents pertinent and alive through these quarterly Lasallian Notes. Thank you to all our readers and supporters of this Lasallian mission which continues to make a profound impact on our world.
As I complete my term, I am blessed to reenter the Lasallian world in Kenya. If you happen to be in East Africa (or choose to come for a visit), I will channel Motel 6’s Tom Bodett: “I’ll leave the light on for you.”

Dena has been blessed by you, Dennis. Though your heart has been in Africa, you served the Brothers here with joy and always with a smile. Both of us are grateful to Con Ed. who paid our fathers well enough to support us. much fulfillment in your new endeavors.
