Brothers Michael Reis (left) and Lawrence Goyette were honored as Local Heroes by Bank of America for their dedication to the Rhode Island community.

10/27/10 – Providence, RI – At the John Hope Settlement House inProvidence, the Bank of America, as part of their Neighborhood Excellence Initiative, recognized five individuals for their dedication to serving the Rhode Island community. Two of those Local Heroes were Brothers Lawrence Goyette and Michael Reis.

Brother Lawrence, the founder of the San Miguel School in Providence, was “honored for his unwavering commitment to children and a belief that education is the key to changing lives and communities.”

Brother Michael, the founder of Tides Family Services, “is a true local hero…for his dedication to serve thousands of high-risk youth and families in Rhode Island’s urban communities.”

Each Local Hero was given a $5,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, eligible to any nonprofit oragnization of their choice. Needless to say, the Brothers’ awards went to the organizations they passionately serve.
