Rome, Italy – Fr. Lawrence Rywalt, CP welcomed Brothers Thomas Casey and Rich Galvin to the Basilica of SS. John and Paul in Rome.
Larry, an alumnus of St. Raymond’s Boys High School, is a former Brother of the Christian Schools who was Sub Director of Novices for two years at Skaneateles. (Rich was a novice during one of those years.) For the last seventeen years Larry has served as secretary for the Superior General of the Passionists. (Their Superior, Fr. Joachim Rego, CP is a native of Myanmar who graduated from a Lasallian school in Australia.)
Thomas and Rich participated in the Sunday Mass at which Larry presided and then joined the Passionist community for their midday meal. The visit also included a stroll in the magnificent gardens, a tour of the Basilica, and a look at the ruins of ancient Roman homes that lie beneath the church. John and Paul, for whom the church is named, were martyred in one of those homes in 362. They are the “John and Paul” mentioned in the first Eucharistic prayer and their bones are entombed in the Basilica.
Father Lawrence Rywalt in your picture is my cousin. I am interested in contacting him again. I misplaced his contact info and just wanted him to know he is still in my thoughts and prayers. If there is anyway you could help me in this way, I would appreciate your help.
Thanks
