08/15/12 – Narragansett, RI

State officials have marked the completion of a $40,000 trail expansion project at the Black Point fishing area in Narragansett.

Officials say the new 1,430-foot loop trail provides additional public access to the shoreline and what are described as breathtaking ocean views. De La Salle Christian Brothers constructed the new trail at the fishing area, located about a mile north of Scarborough Beach. The project was completed with $37,000 in state and federal funds and more in private donations.

Representatives of De La Salle Christian Brothers were joined by officials from the departments of environmental management and transportation at a ribbon-cutting Wednesday morning.

The trail, which is accessible to people with disabilities, will be maintained by volunteers and staff from De La Salle Christian Brothers.
