President
Calvert Hall College High School – Towson, MD

As President of Calvert Hall College High School since July of 2014, Br. John Kane is charged with preserving a history of academic excellence spanning 169 years. To do so, he draws upon over 30 years of experience as an educator throughout the Lasallian community.

Br. John started his career in 1983 as a Social Studies and Religion teacher for the Archbishop John Carroll High School in Philadelphia, becoming their Dean of Students just five years later. He moved on to West Philadelphia Catholic High School as an Athletic Director and Social Studies Teacher for 7 years, then to La Salle University as both an Assistant Athletic Director and Director of Academic Support for Student-Athletes for a combined 16 years. He has also served as a Juvenile Court Representative for St. Gabriel’s System in the Greater Philadelphia Area and on the Presidential Search Committee at La Salle University and became a trustee for the Christian Brothers Academy, in Lincroft, NJ in 2011. He received both his BA in Political Science and MA in Religious Education from La Salle University and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Saint Joseph’s University.

During the first two years of his administration, Br. John has overseen construction of the Noppinger Commons, the refurbishing of the school’s weight room, and the addition of a robotics center for technology clubs. Principal Charles Stembler described Br. John as cordial, easy-going, and approachable. “He’s somebody that you have a good conversation with,” he said. In his welcoming message for the Calvert Hall website, Br. John stated his goals moving forward: “The mission of our founder, St. John Baptist De LaSalle, calls on us to be a school where academic prowess thrives, where young men are involved in their community, and where a brotherhood is created that will last a lifetime.”
