Moraga, CA – Brother Louis DeThomasis, FSC, president emeritus and professor of interdisciplinary studies at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and co-founder and former president of the Christian Brothers Investment Services (CBIS) will receive an honorary doctoral degree in educational leadership at Saint Mary’s College of California’s annual Academic Convocation. The celebratory event, which is free and open to the public, takes place in the College’s Chapel at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at 1928 St. Mary’s Road, Moraga, Calif. 94575.

“Brother Louis DeThomasis is a widely respected theologian whose lifelong service to the Church and stellar academic leadership is an inspirational model for us all,” said Saint Mary’s President James Donahue. “We are extremely proud and privileged to have him visit the College and offer his insights on the priorities of Lasallian educators now, during this special tricentennial year.”

The Convocation holds special significance this year, as it recognizes #300LaSalle, the global celebration of the tercentenary of the Lasallian Catholic and educational legacy of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of teachers and founder of the De La Salle Christian Brothers. During the Convocation, the College will also present two inaugural awards to recognize a Saint Mary’s faculty member and staff member as distinguished Lasallian educators.

“Brother Louis is truly a remarkable and unique individual,” added Vice President for Mission Frances Sweeney. “He has been an exemplary leader in the Lasallian Catholic higher educational community, having us embrace what we do in our scholarship and in our teaching, and how we prepare students to impact society for the common good. He has a clear vision for the important role Lasallian universities play in the 21st century.”
