District Council Member
Raymond Blixt, FSC, over 50 years a Brother of the Christian Schools, is 
certainly a man of faith and zeal. Holding nearly every position in a school or ministry from teacher and department chair, to principal/president and Executive Director, Br. Ray has always brought to his work a great sense of commitment to social justice and to the well-being of the poor. As president of Christian Brothers Investment Services (CBIS) in the 1980’s, Br. Ray instituted the Socially Responsible Investing Program.
“The Church has always advocated the importance of making a connection between faith and everyday life,” he explained. “This was simply a continuation of our broader commitment to social concerns. We wanted to make responsible investing part of who we are.”
During his two tours as Executive Director for the Martin De Porres Schools (1972-1985 & 2000-2011) Br. Ray expanded programming a number of times, increased enrollment, began a high school and vocational high school program, and a residential program, all to serve the poor and those children most in need of care and education. He currently serves on the Boards of La Salle School, Tides Family Services, and Oceantides School, all Lasallian ministries committed to youth and family preservation.
A big believer in Lasallian formation programs, Br. Ray has attended SIEL (International Lasallian Studies), CIL (International Lasallian Center), Buttimer Institute, and Sangre De Cristo, and has also sent Lasallian colleagues to these educational programs.
Br. Ray is not just committed to social justice and the Christian Brothers, but to his siblings as well. As the oldest child, those close to him will tell you, he is truly dedicated to his family. Br. Ray is pretty passionate about sports too. As a New England enthusiast, Br. Ray is a major fan of any sports team that resides in Massachusetts. He takes great pride supporting the Red Sox, Patriots, and the Celtics, donning the appropriate hat, shirt, magnet, or car decal. An avid bowler, and musician, he leads music at the early Mass at St. Mary Magdalene Church, in Springfield Gardens, and is rumored to play a mean accordion. This passionate Brother brings much experience and energy to the District of Eastern North America’s District Council.
