1986 Viking formally returns to lead alma mater
Pittsburgh, PA – At the approval of the District of Eastern North America’s Provincial/Visitor, Brother Robert Schaefer, FSC, Brother Michael Andrejko, FSC, has been named the next Principal for Central Catholic High School. Br. Michael succeeds Brother Anthony Baginski, FSC, who has led the premier college preparatory Lasallian high school located in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh since 2016. Br. Michael’s ministry formally begins July 1, 2022.
A Brother for more than thirty years, Br. Michael currently serves as the Director of Vocations for the District of Eastern North America (DENA). Since 2017, Br. Michael and his team have visited the more than 30 ministries throughout DENA educating and advancing the vocation of The Brothers of the Christian Schools, inviting young people to discern God’s call in their lives, and providing opportunities for young men to consider the unique religious life of a Christian Brother.
“While I’ve been calling Central Catholic High School community my home these past couple of years, living and serving my Brothers as Community Director, I am thrilled that I will be able to serve my alma mater in a more formal role,” said Br. Michael. “While my most recent ministry with the District allowed me to meet and interact with our many students throughout DENA, I look forward to fully immersing myself in the daily life of Central Catholic, and leading this educational community I love.”
Brother Michael previously ministered at Central Catholic as a Teacher and Campus Minister from 2007 to 2010. Br. Michael returns to take the helm at Central after serving as Principal at St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC, and after he will have served as a representative to The Brothers of the Christian Schools 47th General Chapter in Rome, taking place in May of 2022. Having been delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this seven-year gathering as required by The Rule of the Brothers Institute sets the direction and focus for the De La Salle Christian Brothers’ international mission of education for the young, especially the poor, for the next seven years.
“I thank Br. Michael for his years of service to our District Office, and am grateful that he has accepted the invitation to lead Central Catholic,” said Brother Robert Schaefer, FSC. “Central Catholic holds a special place in my heart as I too was able to lead this vibrant institution of committed Brothers and Lasallian Partners, and engaged students and families for a short time. There is no doubt, that with Michael’s experiences as Teacher, Campus Minister, Administrator, and Brother, and fresh off of his international experience in Rome this May, that the future of Catholic Lasallian education in the Viking nation is in good hands!”
He’s one of my heroes!
Congratulations, Br. Mike, and many blessings for your Central Catholic leadership!
Keep on biking, Brother Mike!
