Mr. Rick McKay joins the District Office’s Development efforts
1/22/13 – Eatontown, NJ — Mr. Rick McKay joins the leadership team of The Brothers of the Christian Schools, District of Eastern North America, as the new Director of Development. Starting today Mr. McKay begins his work creating and coordinating District wide fundraising efforts as well as developing and implementing strategies to expand support for the Brothers and their mission of quality accessible education for those most in need, here in the Northeast and abroad.
McKay began his fundraising and development career as a teenager when he founded “Kids Need Camp,” a program which brought children from the South Bronx to summer camp in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. Since then he has raised funds professionally for a number of organizations, including the YMCA, the Boy Scouts of America, and New York Nativity, designing and implementing major gifts programs, leading annual giving campaigns, and securing donations from philanthropic and service organizations. McKay most recently worked with Exec/Comm, a corporate communications consulting firm.
McKay is no stranger to the educational mission of the Christian Brothers. Since 2006, McKay has been a volunteer fundraising consultant for St. Mary’s Boys Secondary School in Nyeri, Kenya, which educates 500 secondary school students, and provides a home to over 200 young boys through its Rescue Center. It was because of his volunteering experiences in Kenya, McKay decided to attend the Heyman Center of Philanthropy at NYU where he graduated in 2012 with an M.S. in Fundraising.
“We’re pleased to have Rick join our leadership team,” said Br. James Martino, FSC, Director of Administration for the District of Eastern North America. “Rick brings an enthusiasm for our mission coupled with his professional experience that will enhance our current, and future development efforts.”
