4/5/2011 – Baltimore, MD – Members of the sophomore class at Calvert Hall received the Anne Lindsey Otenasek Youth Service Award from Catholic Charities of Baltimore during “An Evening with Catholic Charities” at the Hilton Baltimore on April 5, 2011. The award is presented to high school students in recognition of outstanding volunteer service with Catholic Charities in memory of Anne Lindsey Otenasek, a passenger on Pan American Flight 103. It honors and perpetuates the spirit that was the hallmark of Ms. Otenasek’s volunteer work at the agency’s Gallagher Services.

Twice a month for the past 12 years, sophomores at Calvert Hall have expanded their band of brothers to include the men and women of Gallagher Services. Whatever their assigned task at the program for people with developmental disabilities, the teens always apply a youthful exuberance. Applying patience and respect in all their interactions with program participants, they have made an impact in the Medical Day Program and Gallagher Day Programs, working in horticultural activities, assembly/collating contract work, occupational therapy and recreation activities. As the men and women at Gallagher Services have come to know the students, friendships have formed, enriching both parties. Gallagher Services commends the sophomore class of Calvert Hall for modeling the best of service with empathy, compassion and care.
