CBA’s Brother Joseph Jozwiak and Mr. Matthew Keough Assume New Leadership Roles
The Board of Trustees of Christian Brothers Academy announced today that it would be adopting a president and principal leadership model effective with the beginning of the 2015-16 academic year.
Brother Joseph Jozwiak, FSC, who has been the principal at Christian Brothers Academy since the 2009-10 academic year, has been named president of the school. In turn, Brother Joseph has appointed faculty member Mr. Matthew Keough as principal.
“The CBA Board of Trustees made a decision to move in this direction about a year ago,” said Board chair, John D. Murphy ’77. “We recognize the ever-increasing complexity of the role of head of school and the need to provide leadership in both day-to-day management, as well as in the area of operations and advancement.”
Brother Joseph was a member of the CBA board of trustees from 2007-09. He was the assistant provincial for the New York Province of the Christian Brothers in Lincroft, NJ, and a former principal and president of De LaSalle Collegiate High School, Warren, MI, where he also served as vice president, guidance counselor, and a member of the faculty.
Brother Joseph also worked as a school counselor to the Diocese of Orange (California) and as a childcare worker, assistant principal, and director of development at La Salle School, Albany, NY.
Brother Joseph holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Catholic University, a master’s degree in education/private school administration from the University of San Francisco, and a master’s degree in education/mental health from California Lutheran University.
As president of the school, Brother Joseph will be responsible for business operations and external affairs, and will be the guarantor of the school’s Lasallian mission.
Mr. Matthew Keough has taught math at CBA since 2004. During his tenure at the school, Mr. Keough has served as chair of the mathematics department, chair and representative of faculty and staff on CBA’s Board of Trustees and chair of the faculty and staff mission and ministry team. He also coached basketball and baseball at the school. Keough has extensively participated in Lasallian formation programs at District (DENA), Regional and International levels. Last year, he was one of 10 Lasallian faculty members in the country who was selected to be a member of the Lasallian Region of North America’s (RELAN) delegation to the Symposium, held in Rome, Italy. His colleagues nominated him “Lasallian Educator of the Year” for the 2014-15 school year.
Mr. Keough earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Hamilton College and his master’s degree in educational leadership from Le Moyne College.
Mr. Keough will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.
“The president and principal model will usher the school community into a new era of shared leadership, highlighted by a working alliance between two strong individuals, Brother Joseph and Matt Keough,” Murphy added. “Implementing this model will advance the tradition of excellence for which Christian Brothers Academy is famous.”
