5/21/12 – Dewitt, NY Family, friends, and alumni gathered at Alibrandi Stadium for CBA’s annual Carsky Run on Friday, May 4th to celebrate the life of Bob Carsky ’73 who was tragically killed in 2004 during a civil war in Africa’s Ivory Coast where he was working. The event, which includes a one-lap “fun run,” and honors the student athletes who win the men’s 1500m, and women’s 1600m, was the 8th annual. To date, over $84,000 has been raised to benefit the Robert Carsky ’73 Scholarship Fund and African refugee students at the school — all in Bob’s honor.
The scholarship fund was established by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ed Carsky, to help qualified CBA students who are African refugees or of African descent. Bob was a soil scientist and crop researcher who had spent over two decades working on economic development and agricultural reform in Africa. He was extremely passionate about improving life for the African people.
More than a dozen members from four generations of the Carsky family, a group of CBA alumni who ran track with Bob when he was at CBA, and a few students all made there way around the track as a tribute to their lost classmate, son, brother, nephew, uncle and friend.
Also in attendance at this year’s event was senior Nora Hakizimana, a recipient of funds raised at the run, who showed her support for the generosity of Bob’s family that has allowed her to attend CBA and pursue her academic goals. Nora, originally from Congo, plans on attending Brown University in the fall where she will study international relations with a concentration in African studies. pictured – Nora Hakizimana with Dr. and Mrs. Ed Carsky
