Christian Brothers Academy Class of 2020 gathered at the school with familyand friends for the school’s Accepted Student Night on Monday, Jan. 20. Principal Brother Joseph Jozwiak, FSC, welcomed the sixth graders, who came from 39 different Catholic, public and private schools in Central New York.
CBA senior Andrew Goodwin of Fayetteville and eighth grader Rachel Tanguay of Marcellus offered first-hand accounts of the CBA student experience.
Goodwin recalled his shadowing day at CBA when Holly Dowd, Director of Admissions handed him a coupon for a cookiewich.
“She spoke to me about CBA with so much passion and enthusiasm,” Goodwin said. “She introduced me to the cookiewich and said that it was a CBA student favorite. That experience embodied everything that CBA stood for and it made me feel special.
“Everyone at CBA is sacred, unique and beautiful,” Goodwin continued. “This notion drives everything at the school. Enjoy the ride, this is one of the best things that ever happened to me in my 17 years.”
Tanqguay spoke about her fellow students and the faculty.
“The students and faculty here make it different,” Tanguay said. “I look forward to coming to my home away from home every day. We are truly blessed to have such dedicated faculty.”
The Junior Varsity Cheerleaders welcomed all of the students and their families and led the group in cheer at the end of the reception. Members of the CBA orchestra under the direction of faculty member Muriel Bodley performed. The accepted students visited with several other faculty members on hand, signed up for an upcoming Brother For A Day shadowing experience, posed for photos at the photo booth and enjoyed refreshments, thanks to the Parents Club.

Six students were recognized as CBA Academic Scholars, each receiving a scholarship based on outstanding entrance exam results and an excellent academic record. Scholarship winners in attendance were:
- Elizabeth Lucas from St. Patrick’s School in Oneida
- Jonathan Duteau from St. Mary’s School in Baldwinsville
- Isabelle Limpert from Immaculate Conception School in Fayetteville
- Luke Queri from Jamesville-Dewitt Middle School
- Shivam Nanavati from Ray Middle School in Baldwinsville
- Thiennan Tran from Cathedral at Pompeii School
“You come to us from near and far and each one of you sitting here was chosen because we feel you will be tremendously successful in all ways as CBA Brothers,” Dowd said prior to reading the names of those accepted into the new class.
“We are the best school in Central New York and we are happy that you chose CBA,” Principal Brother Joseph Jozwiak said to students and their parents. “We know you had a lot of options. We know the investment. We know that you made the right choice.”
Kristen DeLorenzo of Fayetteville joins her siblings Brian, a freshman, and Lauren, a senior as the newest member of the family to attend CBA.
