Dewitt, NY – Christian Brothers Academy recently announced the appointment of Matthew Keough who will succeed Brother Joseph Jozwiak, FSC, as President of the school effective July 1, 2020.
In May, Brother Joseph informed the school’s Board of Trustees and the CBA faculty and staff that he would be retiring from the President’s position at the conclusion of the 2019-2020 academic year. A recruitment team including representatives from the faculty, Board of Trustees, and parents was formed and conducted a thorough process throughout the summer and fall to select a new President.
Brother Joseph is the longest running head of school in the history of Christian Brothers Academy. Now in his 11th year, he was appointed in 2009 as Principal and appointed as President in 2015. During Brother Joe’s tenure, CBA has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, grown its Lasallian identity, invested in capital improvements and continued its legacy as a top notch college preparatory school. Most recently, the school has had the most successful capital campaign in its history, raising more than $12 million to date. The campaign, Our Mission, Their Future, will result in a more than $5,000,000 increase in CBA’s endowment and major additions and renovations to the school’s campus buildings, securing the future of the school for years to come.
Mr. Keough began his career at CBA in 2004 as a member of the Math department faculty. He was named Principal of the school in 2015, when Br. Joe assumed a new position as President. Since becoming Principal, Mr. Keough has played a key role in the continued strong enrollment, educational excellence, and high level of Lasallian spirit and community at the school. Keough is a graduate of Hamilton College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, he has a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Le Moyne College.
“CBA has thrived under Brother Joseph’s leadership,” says John O’Connor, chair of CBA’s Board of Trustees. “We are grateful for all that Brother Joe has done for the CBA community; at the same time, the Board and the entire CBA community have great confidence in Mr. Keough and his ability to lead CBA into the future as our first lay President. While Brother Joe is retiring from the role of President, we are very excited to announce that he will be staying on at CBA, serving as Special Advisor to the President next year.”
Christian Brothers Academy Syracuse is one of 30 ministries overseen by DENA (the District of Eastern North America) in the worldwide network of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Brother Dennis Lee, the Brother Visitor for DENA, acting in concert with the FSC DENA Ministry Corporation, has approved the nomination by the Christian Brothers Academy Board of Trustees of Mr. Keough to serve as the school’s next President. Br. Dennis offered, “We are also pleased that Brother Joseph will continue to serve the CBA Community through his advisory role as requested by Mr. Keough.”
This news comes a day after CBA’s ribbon cutting ceremony.
