6/20/2011 – Oswego, NY — Students from more than 30 nations will gather in Oswego the week of June 27 to compete in science and art, but they’ll also get a dose of athletic competition at a basketball tournament June 28 and 29.
Four teams representing Onondaga Central Schools, Oswego High School, Christian Brothers Academy and the Syracuse Academy of Science will compete in the GENIUS Olympiad tournament, with games at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. each night in Laker Hall’s Max Ziel Gymnasium. The public is welcome to attend. Tickets are $5 each night and may be purchased at tickets.oswego.edu.
At least 137 finalists and their mentors from more than 30 nations—Egypt, Slovakia, South Korea, Indonesia, Turkey and others—are expected for the five-day Global Environmental Issues U.S. (GENIUS) Project Olympiad at SUNY Oswego. They will exhibit their projects to the public in competition for scholarships, prizes and medals.
Besides the science and art competition, the visitors’ itinerary will include exposure to American culture at the basketball tournament, a journey to Niagara Falls with a stop at Waterloo Premium Outlets on the return trip, an international fair in Oswego’s Campus Center and an ice cream social.
With sponsorship from Syracuse Research Corp., Airgas, Barton & Loguidice, LotusMedia, Technotime, Terra Science and Education Foundation, and SUNY Oswego, each visiting entrant and his or her teacher have only airfare to pay among major trip expenses.
