Contact in prayer

Contacts had many opportunities to pray and discern God’s call in their lives during this Winter Retreat

Philadelphia, PA – January 2-5, 2020, six contacts from the East Coast gathered for a Retreat at Jeremy House/Christian Brothers’ Scholasticate in Philadelphia, PA. Bro. Robert Schaefer, FSC, was the main presenter with a theme of “The Brothers’ Vocation: Mission, Identity, and Fraternity.”

There was a service component to this retreat with the Contacts hosting a field day for the Gesu School in North Philadelphia at La Salle University on Friday. With bag lunches prepared the evening before, Contacts spent the day with Gesu students guiding them through activities on La Salle’s campus. Special thanks to Ms. Tonya Ellis and Br. Gerard Molyneaux of the University’s Communications Department, who provided a tour of the the La Salle TV Studio, and spent time viewing clips of the iconic movie “Jaws,” analyzing color, composition, and cinema theory. Gesu students along with their Contact guides were also guests of La Salle’s Art Museum, spending time with the artwork through a scavenger hunt, and were then able to have some physical activity with games.

Saturday afternoon, Bro. Robert Schieler, Superior General for the Brothers, made time in his busy schedule to speak with the Contacts and what the Brothers are currently doing globally. Saturday evening, the Anselm Hall Community at La Salle University hosted the Contacts for an evening of prayer, dinner, socializing, and a video/discussion.

Ages ranged from 18-45 among the Contacts, and hailed from Detroit, MI, Washington, DC, Albany, NY, Pittsburgh, PA, and Baltimore, MD. The Contacts left with a renewed understanding of the depth of the Brothers’ vocation and their discernment to the Christian Brothers’ vocation.
