1984: The Premier of Communist China and the British Prime Minister (Margaret Thatcher) signed the Joint Declaration to transfer Hong Kong from British rule back to China effective 1997. The Christian Brothers first came to Hong Kong in 1875 and within several years their first ministry there was named St. Joseph’s College.
