Nine-Year Lasallian Educator tapped as Associate Director for office animating Christian Brothers’ mission throughout Eastern North America

Eatontown, NJ – The Brothers of the Christian Schools – District of Eastern North America (DENA), is proud to announce Mr. Justin Martineau as their selection for Associate Director of the Office for Mission and Ministry. Mr. Martineau will step into the new position August 3, 2020.

A nine-year Lasallian Educator, Mr. Martineau has served the educational community at De La Salle High School in New Orleans, Louisiana since 2011. He began his Lasallian career as a Religious Studies teacher working with Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior classes. Less than six months later, in addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Martineau would be invited to be an Assistant Campus Minister, aiding the department’s Director in planning, executing, and evaluating class-level retreats, coordinating all school-wide liturgies and faculty retreats, and serving as a member of the school’s adult formation team. By 2014, Martineau’s enthusiasm and zeal for the Lasallian educational mission would have him adding Director of Student Activities to his growing list of responsibilities. Collaborating with moderators and advisors of De La Salle’s clubs and organizations, Martineau also served as the co-student council advisor, helping to mentor students into young leaders in the educational community. Adding Scheduling Assistant to the Principal to his resume this current school year, Martineau would take on a more administrative role, building the master schedule for the school, coordinating mandated service reports, and implementing the school’s classroom Chromebook integration. He also served as an at-large member of the school’s Academic Council, and worked closely with the principal to plan and execute school-wide projects and assemblies.

“Maryann Donohue-Lynch and I are excited about Justin joining DENA’s Office for Mission and Ministry team,” said Executive Director, Mr. Alan Weyland. “As a Young Lasallian Professional, Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies graduate, and Lasallian educator with almost a decade of high school service, both in the classroom and in administrative capacities, Justin will bring new perspectives and ideas to the services and resources offered by the OMM to the DENA network of educational ministries. Justin’s areas of focus will be strengthening Association efforts, accompanying and supporting Young Lasallians, and Lasallian education and formation services.”

“I am honored to have been chosen to join the District’s Office for Mission and Ministry,” said Martineau. “I look forward to furthering the mission of St. La Salle throughout DENA. I’m truly passionate about the unique Lasallian charism, which calls us to Christ-like service, being brother and sister to one another, and more importantly to the young people entrusted to our care. I cannot wait to work shoulder-to-shoulder with Christian Brothers and Lasallian Partners in DENA, facilitating and refreshing established programs, and brainstorming and implementing new initiatives!”

That same faith and zeal that animates Mr. Martineau’s Lasallian vocation, also called him to District and Regional service. Locally, in Martineau’s home state of Louisiana, there are four Lasallian ministries. He would help to plan, and participate in the NOLAsallian Convocations in 2016, 2017, and 2019 bringing together Lasallian Educators from those ministries for formation and association. For his home District, Mr. Martineau was a Moderator for San Francisco New Orleans’ Lasallian Student Leaders program from 2013-2018. He was also a Planning Committee member for the leadership focused program for Lasallian students from 2016-2018, equivalent to DENA’s annual Lasallian Youth Summer Assembly. After graduating from the Lasallian Region of North America’s (RELAN) three-year Buttimer Institute for Lasallian Studies in 2015, Mr. Martineau would be invited back as a staff member. From 2016-2019, Mr. Martineau served as a Community Director, and would later facilitate the Young Lasallians practicum, one of a number of supplemental courses of study offered as part of Buttimer, in 2018 and 2019.

“The Lasallian experiences I’ve had at De La Salle High School, with the San Francisco New Orleans District, and at the Regional level have led to my professional, personal, and spiritual growth,” said Martineau. “The encounters I’ve had with the global Lasallian community have been life giving, and I’m confident they will aid me in facilitating, guiding, and sharing the Lasallian vocation with others, now in DENA.”

Born and raised in Louisiana, Martineau was educated locally, and then left his home to earn his Bachelor of Arts, with a double major in Political Science, and Theology, from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Martineau would return to Metairie, and begin his Lasallian career at De La Salle High School.

“While I’m excited for this new opportunity with DENA, I’m leaving my home again, my home District, and my Lasallian foundation,” said Martineau. “It’s truly bittersweet. With this Lasallian mission’s focus on lay-partners, the Christian Brothers genuinely invite us in to share in this important educational vocation in the Church. I cannot express how grateful I am to have spent nine years at De La Salle sharing in the faith and zeal of the Brothers and Lasallian Partners there, and look forward to bringing that same energy to my work in this new DENA role!”
