DeWitt, NY – Christian Brothers Academy seniors Alessandra Sommers and Marina Hatem, came up with an idea last year to collect gently used prom, formal, and semi-formal dresses, and sell them at a low cost so that students from the area who could not normally buy a prom dress, would be able to do so. Additionally, they decided that the proceeds from the sale should go to CBA Syracuse’s twin school, the Child Discovery Centre in Nakuru, Kenya. The girls collected over 200 dresses and had the sale on March 11, 2018. They intend to pass the initiative along to juniors to continue their work next year. Any dresses left over that cannot be sold this year will be passed to the new leaders.
The sale generated over a thousand dollars and was added the normal collection for the CDC to be sent later in the spring!
Alessandra and Marina’s efforts were featured on the morning local news and in Syracuse Woman magazine.
