Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School – Brooklyn NY
by Dana Evans – senior
Growing up in East Flatbush, I always heard my aunt describe Bishop Loughlin High School, her alma mater, as a special place. My family and I thought it might be the best place for me, also. Receiving support from the St. John Baptist de La Salle Fund helped me attend Loughlin, allowing me to grow academically and socially. I now understand why my aunt loved it here so much.
If I was to describe Loughlin in one word, I would say, ‘family.’ You always have somebody to support you, look out for you and aid you in any aspect of your life. I hope that my little sister, who is in 8th grade, will be able to come here next year.
It seems as if it was just yesterday I was sitting down with my mom trying to figure out if I would be able to attend Loughlin. I am a senior now, and plan to major in Education or Business in college. My time here has felt so brief and yet so long, partly because of the pandemic during my freshman and sophomore years. It was very challenging academically. I was worried if I could make an impact, and have a full educational experience. I was determined to have an excellent high school experience regardless of the pandemic.
I have so many fond memories in the classroom, especially during debates in History and Moral Issues classes. They helped me open my eyes to the complex issues in the world. I’m proud to have spent time as a Loughlin Ambassador, and to have received my National Honor Society pin and certificate. I also loved my experiences on the House Dance Team and in the school band.
Thank you, Christian Brothers, for supporting me with your Scholarship Fund.
THE ST. JOHN BAPTIST DE LA SALLE FUND seeks to ensure that a Lasallian education is available and accessible to those students most in need. Through an initial program of student sponsorship and a growing program of grants to identified schools, the Fund provides tuition assistance for students to attend a Lasallian school. With your support, we are now providing $845,000 annually for our students in need. All are welcome to join the Brothers and their Partners-in-Mission in this specially dedicated scholarship fund which continues to grow each year.
