District of Eastern North America
Christmas Card Contest Winner – 2012
During this wonderful time of year, we asked Art students from across the District to capture the spirit of the Christmas Season in their own creative way.
This year’s winner, Griffin McGuire, is a Junior at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and this is his third year studying art. He took Studio in Art, Drawing and Painting, and now he is studying Graphic Arts. His favorite artistic activity is drawing and he really enjoys working on an image and seeing it come to life.
He won Honorable Mention to Best in Show in last year’s St. Joe’s Art Exhibit. Over the summer he was a member of a 3 man team that competed in the Lewiston Art Festival Chalk Walk competition. The team won the People’s Choice award for their interpretation of “Diversity is…” They chose to put a diverse group of people crowded in an elevator going up to a better place on an upper floor stating “Diversity can sometimes be uncomfortable.”
Griffin also enjoys speaking German and went on a school trip to Germany last summer. He hopes to pursue teaching in college but also wants to take art courses.
