Pope Paul VI
Pope Paul VI was installed as the new leader of the world’s Catholics on June 30, 1963. Earlier in time, through his many contacts in Rome with the Italian Brothers, then-Cardinal Montini (Archbishop of Milan), was given letters of affiliation (honorary membership) in the Brothers of the Christian Schools in November 1954.

Bishop Neumann Beatified
Bishop John Neumann of Philadelphia was beatified (declared “blessed”) on October 11. Brother Galdrick John (Owens) was scheduled to represent the Baltimore District at the ceremonies.

Vatical II Calls on Superior General
Brother Nicet Joseph, superior general of the Christian Brothers, was summoned to take part as a “peritus” (authority) in sessions at the Second Vatican Council on October 24.
