42-FirstVows260 Years Since DLS Ordination;
219 Since His Death

April is a significant month in the life of St. John Baptist de La Salle. Born on April 30, 1651, in the city of Reims, France, he was ordained a priest on April 9, 1678. De La Salle died on April 7, 1719, and his last words have been traditionally translated “I adore in all things the will of God in my regard.”

Archivist’s Note:
For decades, De La Salle’s feast day was May 15, but since circa 1970, the Catholic Church adjusted his feast day (and that of other saints) to be the saint’s entrance into heaven (hence for Lasallians, April 7).
