Featuring Br. Thomas Casey, FSC – Executive Director for The De La Salle School – Freeport, NY

Sister Diane Capuano and Brother Thomas Casey must have anticipated, when they first entered consecrated life, that they would in some way be working with young people. Sister Diane, after all, became and Amityville Dominican Sister – the “Order of Preachers,” known since their founding by St. Dominic in 1216 for their efforts to teach and spread the Gospel. And the De La Salle Christian Brothers, whom Brother Tom joined 43 years ago, are also known as the “Brothers of the Christian Schools,” their charism of education having followed the legacy of their founder, St. John Baptist De La Salle, for more than 300 years.

Yet today they find themselves in roles they did not anticipate. Sister Diane, after beginning her religious life working with young children – in special education, then teaching first grade religious education – now finds herself with college students as associate director of campus ministry at Molloy College in Rockville Centre. Brother Thomas, having spent his entire educational career at the high school level, now ministers to young men in middle school as executive director of The De La Salle School in Freeport.
