3/20/12 – Providence, RI – After checking the archives and files of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League and The Providence Journal sports pages, it is clear that the 2011-12 La Salle Academy Lady Rams athletic teams have set a state record by already winning seven state titles of the ten girls sports championships decided as of mid-March 2012.

To date the Lady Rams have won state titles in the following sports:

  • Tennis
  • Soccer
  • Indoor Track and Field
  • Gymnastics
  • Basketball
  • Ice Hockey
  • Swimming

The only titles to date that the Lady Rams have not won are Cross-Country, Volleyball, and Field Hockey (a sport that is not played at La Salle). In addition, the La Salle Competition Cheerleading team won the state title in mid-March. However, Competition Cheerleading team can be co-ed and, thus, is not considered an exclusive girls sport. The La Salle team is made up of 20 girls and two boys.

This is a remarkable record, and there are still three girls’ team titles to be decided – lacrosse, softball and outdoor track & field in the Spring.

La Salle salutes the female athletes who have been members of those seven state championship teams and also those team’s members who won individual titles. Girls’ individual titles to date are:
