Lasallian students come together for discussion and reflection in the light of the ILDP
10/1012 – Providence, RI – On the evening of Wednesday, October 10, students from La Salle Academy, Providence, and St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, gathered for a movie night to mark the International Lasallian Days of Peace. About 50 students and a handful of faculty members met to view the documentary Dying to Live.
The documentary explores the conflict, pain, and hope for migrants along the U.S.-Mexico border. The film itself — which draws on the insights of Pulitzer Prize winning photographers, theologians, congressional leaders, and immigrants themselves — explores why so many leave their homes and what they face on the dangerous journey to the U.S.
The evening began with members of Lasallian Youth leading the group in prayer. Following the movie, teacher Gregg DeMaria and campus minister Christine Estes from La Salle Academy shared stories from their experiences at the Lasallian Social Justice Institute in Arizona this past July. Students then broke into small groups to discuss their reactions to the film (above). Following the presentation, students enjoyed snacks and informal conversation in the cafeteria. It was an evening of education and awareness, community building and Lasallian association for these students.
