12/5/12 – Troy, NY— During this Christmas season of giving, La Salle Institute is holding several collection drives to help the poor and needy of the Capital Region.
The Institute will host a worn sneakers drive. Rather than throw them away, sneakers brought to La Salle will be sold to a recycling plant, where the full proceeds will be turned over to local food pantries. Sophomores Ethan DiMura and Philip Adikes envisioned and are directing this project.
LSI student Seamus Kelley reached out to the Albany Rescue Mission for advice on helping those in need. At their suggestion, La Salle Institute is holding a “new sock drive.” New and unopened socks, along with slightly worn, outgrown childrens’ winter boots can be donated to La Salle Institute to be given to the Albany Rescue Mission.
Every year, La Salle’s Student Senate holds a toy drive for local families who will not be able to provide a gift for their children this Christmas. The Student Senate will collect new, unwrapped toys through December 18th.
