Celebrating inaugural year as a co-educational school with the third largest entering class in 20 years and significant enrollment increase
Troy, NY – When Fall semester started at La Salle Institute today, the historically all-boys school welcomed a group of new and returning students that included more than 60 young women. “We are proud and thrilled to not only welcome all of our returning students back to La Salle, but to open our doors to young women and provide them with the same exceptional opportunities that we have been providing young men for more than 170 years,” said President Joseph Raczkowski, an alumnus of the class of 1972. “Interest in La Salle has been extraordinary – we have seen a 14% increase in enrollment overall. This is our largest group of students in 8 years, and 100% of our teachers are back this year to meet them.”
In preparation for this historic Mission Expansion, La Salle updated and improved their facilities, programs and athletics. This includes two renovated science labs which have been modernized and rebuilt, as well as remodeled locker rooms and new restrooms. La Salle has hired additional teachers and staff to meet the needs of the growing student population, as well as coaches for an emerging women’s sports program. In addition to its regular fall sports programs for boys, La Salle’s young women will compete on soccer, cross country and swimming teams this season.
“This year is going to be an amazing experience for all of us and we will grow and learn together,” said La Salle Admissions Director Josh House, an alumnus of the class of 2008. “We are building a great foundation for what we will provide for our students today and for years to come – this is an exciting time to be at La Salle Institute.”
At La Salle, all students will be learning in person this year which was a very important goal for school administration. “If the pandemic has taught educators anything, it is that the value and power of in-person instruction for all students is critically essential. We’re thrilled to welcome our students back in the building and we relish the idea of continuing to provide outstanding instruction to our young people,” said Principal Steve Sgambelluri.
