The University’s new partnership with Catholic Relief Services brings attention to humanitarian relief efforts

La Salle has entered into a partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the Catholic Church’s official international humanitarian relief and development organization. The University is bringing CRS’s work to the attention of faculty and students in a variety of ways, while CRS helps with programming and speakers. For example, through this partnership, La Salle hosted Rigoberto Diaz, a CRS Fair Trade Mexican farmer in September. Mr. Diaz presented to about 100 students in the De La Salle Chapel on campus on the topic of farming and distribution practices in promoting economic justice and sustainable development. CRS also affords La Salle faculty the opportunity to participate in the Global Solidarity Network (GSN). The GSN uses modern technology to incorporate themes of global justice into college courses. In July, 15 La Salle faculty participated in a workshop on campus on using the GSN and about an equal number are expected to use this feature in a class during the present year. GSN topics this year are: fair trade, peacebuilding, water security, food, and migration.
