Wyndmoor, PA – In early April, St. Raymond High School for Boys’ Lacrosse team took the ride from the Bronx to Wyndmoor, PA, for a practice / clinic with La Salle College High School’s team.
After hearing through the Lasallian family network of Brothers and Partners that Head Coach Brother Richard Galvin would be interested in having his young Ravens lacrosse team learn from the defending PA State champions, Head Coach Bill Leahy was happy to invite them down to La Salle College High School.
St. Raymond’s 21 players started with 8:00m Mass at the school and then boarded the bus to PA. Greeted by Coach Leahy and the LSCHS Explorers upon their arrival, the St. Rays Ravens were taken on a tour and given time to introduce themselves. By noon, practice began; St. Ray’s players benefited from instruction by Coach Leahy and players alike taking part in drills together with La Salle. .
For the last 45 minutes a scrimmage was held with players from La Salle and St. Ray’s forming two teams. At the conclusion of the scrimmage, La Salle parents along with Mrs. Brabson (who helped make the whole idea of the two teams meeting a reality) had setup a pizza lunch for both teams. Another parent, Mr. Houdeck, organized a collection of lacrosse equipment no longer being used by La Salle players. St. Ray’s players benefited greatly from this gift in kind, and several Ravens now have a lacrosse helmet, gloves, and other gear that they call their own.
“It was a great experience for our boys,” said Brother Richard. “I am proud to be a Lasallian, but most especially that Sunday.”
