4/4/12 – Providence, RI — St. Raphael Academy and La Salle Academy participated with 3 other Rhode Island High Schools in the annual Rhode Island Catholic High School Sleep Out held at the end of March. 4 students from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn, NY, also made the trek to Providence by bus from to join their fellow Lasallians, accompanied by Lasallian Volunteer Christopher Hueg.

The Sleep Out was held at the Cathedral of the Diocese of Providence. Over 150 students assembled personal care packets for a Homeless Shelter, heard a presentation from Voices of the Homeless from the RI Coalition for the Homeless, attended Mass, and then slept out on the plaza in front of the Cathedral. Students also raised money for the Diocese of Providence’s “Keep the Heat On” Campaign, which assists low-income families with their heating and energy bills, especially during the frigid winter months.
