Living Lasallian – April 2012

Dear Lasallians,

Easter blessings to you.

I hope the joy of the Easter season, and the energy and new life that comes each spring, are in full bloom within you.

Life and vitality in mission are evident in so many ways in our District, especially as we answer Brother Alvaro’s call to become Lasallians without Borders.

We are living up to that challenge in the remarkable life and legacy work of Brother Dominic Jordan with the street kids of Kenya, and in the Twinning relationship between our secondary schools of DENA and the English speaking schools of our Lwanga District in East Africa.

Rich signs of the Spirit’s outpouring through the Lasallian Mission!

It is the power of this Spirit, this generous love of God through each one of us that enables such a diverse community of believers as we, to work together as one Lasallian community in service to young people, with special concern for the poor, the least loved, and the marginalized

With a 42-year tenure at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, Mr. Robert T. Scott, AFSC has successfully advanced from religion teacher to vice principal to his current position as the school’s first ever lay president.

Bob’s numerous contributions to the school and community of Buffalo during his time have been substantial. The most recent of these contributions was the spearheading of SJCI’s 2009 capital campaign, entitled Pride in our Past…Faith in our Future. When the campaign concluded in August…

For over a century, Saint Gabriel’s System has been serving troubled youth in the spirit of St. John Baptist de La Salle.

On November 3, 1898, in response to an invitation from Archbishop Patrick John Ryan, the Christian Brothers assumed the mission of caring for and educating poor, young wayward boys, along with the responsibility of administering the Philadelphia Protectorate for Boys, later to become known as Saint Gabriel’s Hall, located in Audubon, Pennsylvania.

Through the years, Saint Gabriel’s has remained committed to the words of the original mission statement…
