CBA Albany Cornerstone Laid
The cornerstone for the new Christian Brothers Academy in Albany was laid by Bishop Edmund Gibbons on Sunday, October 23. For decades, the Brothers have desired a better facility than their cramped downtown location, since 1854. Just months later, however, and because of a lawsuit, CBA lost this new tract of land, and the process to search for a new property for CBA began all over again!

The name of La Salle Institute in Cumberland (MD) has been changed to La Salle High School.

Brothers’ Ladies Celebrate
The Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Christian Brothers (NY District) held their annual Communion Breakfast on Sunday, October 23. The Mass was celebrated in the special chapel at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Manhattan, with breakfast at the Hotel Pennsylvania. Over 600 relatives and friends of the Brothers attended.

Student Bros Study 4 Years, Not 3
Beginning in September 1938, the student Brothers of the New York District will be allowed to live and study four complete years at De La Salle College (Washington), rather than just three as in previous years.

University of Scranton Celebrates 50 Years
The University of Scranton, which has been conducted by the Brothers since 1897, is celebrating its 50th anniversary (1888-1938) this year. This is also the first year that the school now bears this name; previously it was St. Thomas College.

The large student body at West Catholic HS numbers 2,239 this year, with 60 parishes represented.

Central Enrollment Highest Ever
The enrollment at Central Catholic HS in Pittsburgh reached its highest level up to that date (1,450 students), and the Viking student newspaper began its second year of existence.

The West Philadelphia Mothers Auxiliary journeyed to Ammendale (MD) to visit their Junior Novice sons living and studying there, most likely in fall 1938.

La Salle NY Students Honor Chicago Archbishop
Over 300 students from La Salle Academy (NYC), together with their band and their fife and drum corps, honored alumnus Cardinal George Mundelein, Archbishop of Chicago, as he sailed for Rome in November.
