St. John’s New Name

On June 26, 1939, St. John’s Industrial School in Toronto became known as St. John’s Training School.

Msgr. Josheph Farrell AFSC

Msgr. Joseph Farrell (alumnus of La Salle Academy and Class of 1895 of Manhattan College) became an affiliated member of the Christian Brothers in the Manhattan College chapel. Then, in a ceremony at the Staten Island Division of Manhattan College, John F. Brosnan (alumnus of De La Salle Institute and Class of 1911 of Manhattan College) was given the same honor. Both events were held in May 1939.

La Salle College High School won first honors in the one-act play contest among other Archdiocesan high schools in Philadelphia.

Lasallian Students Win States

The New York State Department of Education announced that 29 students of Lasallian high schools in the state were winners of state scholarships. Cathedral HS (NYC) and Bishop Loughlin (Brooklyn) won 8 scholarships each, while 6 were awarded to Christian Brothers Academy (Albany).

St. Gabriel’s Parish Closes

The church and school at St. Gabriel’s Parish on the East Side of Manhattan closed after 80 years. The pastor paid tribute to Brothers Tatian, Leontine, Gregory, Ascislus Michael, Albian, and Binen Michael and many other FSC for their service to the parish over the decades.
