LA SALLE ACADEMY, PROVIDENCE BOYS AND GIRLS TRACK TEAMS WIN TEAM TITLES AT THE DARTMOUTH RELAYS

The La Salle Academy Boys and Girls Indoor Track and Field teams both won the team championships at the Dartmouth College Invitational Relays this weekend in Hanover, New Hampshire. The boys team amassed 54 points to outdistance second place finishers Cambridge Ringe and Latin, MA, and Bishop Hendricken High School, who finished with 28 points each. The girls team accumulated 60 points as they beat Colonie High School, NY, by 12 points. Sophomore Eliza Rego clocked a 5:02.5 mile time in winning the race. By winning, Rego qualified for the Junior Mile at the New Balance Grand Prix next month in Boston.

Jack Salisbury, Matt Bouthilette, Jamie Placco, and Dan Paiva turned in spectacular performances, both individually, and as a relay unit. The foursome won the 4 x 800m relay in a time of 8:15.64, and the Distance Medley Relay in 10:36.67. In the mile, Salisbury finished second in a time of 4:20.06, Paiva fourth in 4:21.62, and Bouthilette sixth in 4:22.84. Placco finished third in the 800 meters in 1:58.39.

The girls team duplicated the boys feat by also winning the 4 x 800m relay and the DMR. The 4 x 800m relay was made up Alicia DeCastro, Caroline Falvey, Karina Tavares, and Rego. Their time was 9:39.97. In the DMR, the team of Amanda Joyal, Tavares, DeCastro, and Rego ran the fastest time in the country to date, winning in 12:18.44.

Freshman David Principe, Jr. ran a 9:42.23 in the two-mile race to finish second. Senior Sean Greene finished third in the high jump with a leap of 6’4″. Senior Broderick Santilli finished sixth in the finals of the 55 meter dash in a time of 6.74.

Sophomore Karina Tavares finished second in the two-mile race with a time of 11:07.9. Senior Morgan Wainwright improved her time in each of her three heats and finished third overall with a time of 8.98 in the 55 meter high hurdles. The 4 x 400m relay team of Joyal, Mia Sardella, Jessica Apajee, and Veronica Hardy came in third in 4:10.53, as did the Sprint Medley Relay team of Sardella, Stephanie DiTraglia, Hardy, and Caroline Falvey. The SMR had a time of 4:19.61. Senior Jacqueline Esmay took a sixth in the Weight Throw with a toss of 42’4″. Joyal also took a sixth in the 300 meter race in 42.13. DeCastro picked up a point with her sixth place finish in the 800 meter run. DeCastro finished in 2:22.52. The 4 x 200m relay of Joyal, Sardella, DiTraglia, and Hardy took a sixth with a time of 1:53.03.

This is only the second time a school has won both the boys and girls title in the same year. This year’s girls runner-up team, Colonie High School of New York, accomplished the feat in 2012.
