LV’s Ride Garners National Attention
The Volunteer program surpasses its ambitious $100,000 goal!
8/23/2011 – Washington, DC – 3,400 miles across country on a bicycle may seem like a grueling task. For the LV Riders however, the goal of raising awareness and funds to combat poverty was well worth it.
As of Tuesday August 23rd, the LV’s Ride raisied over $101,400 for the Lasallian Volunteer program, which places college graduates in Lasallian schools throughout the country to aid the Christian Brothers in their educational mission.

Starting from the Pacific Ocean in Astoria, Oregon and ending in Long Branch, New Jersey, National and Regional riders cycled an average of 70 miles a day through cities and towns, meeting with local groups involved with poverty assistance programs, sharing their volunteer experiences and encouraging others to participate in serving their communities.
Throughout the ride, students, faculty and fellow Volunteers greeted the LV Riders along their route through the District of Eastern North America in Pittsburgh, PA; Wyndmoor, PA; Philadelphia, PA; and ending in Long Branch, NJ. The LV riders stopped at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh and La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor. As the riders dipped the front end of their tires in the Atlantic in Long Branch, NJ, symbolizing the end of their ride, Brothers and Partners from the District Office and DENA welcomed them home at Brothers’ Provincial Community on the Christian Brothers Academy campus in Lincroft, NJ, to celebrate the end of a long, but eye opening journey.
And it seems that a ride of this magnitude, for a mission so important, should garner some attention…
All throughout the ride, local newspapers and media outlets picked up the LV’s Ride story. In DENA, Diocesan newspapers the Pittsburgh Catholic and the Trenton Monitor got the scoop, while Pittsburgh’s Post Gazette didn’t miss the news-beat. The Ride even garnered national attention, as their story was poste on the Catholic News Service.
