De La Salle Collegiate Story
De La Salle Collegiate in Detroit was given significant attention by the Bulletin of the St. La Salle Auxiliary of June 1938. In 1923, loyal alums from Detroit’s St. Joseph Commercial School desired to solidify the Brothers’ presence in that city, so they began to contribute funds to help build a new school on Detroit’s rapidly expanding East Side.
Ground was broken in 1925. The cornerstone was laid a year later. The first student body in September 1926 was 85 boys.
