100 Years of Benilde
During the summer of 1962, the Lasallian world remembered the 100th anniversary of the death of Brother Benilde in the French town of Saugues on August 13, 1862.
The French-language Institute Bulletin gave 16 pages of coverage to Brother Benilde, with about half of these printing some of his many letters to confreres, family, and others.1
Brother Benilde was beatified (one step away from sainthood) by Pope Pius XII on April 4, 1948, and his sainthood was eventually proclaimed in 1967.
The Bulletin of January 1963 published photos of a grand procession on July 1, 1962, in the town of Thuret, the birthplace of Brother Benilde.2
