Manhattan College, which recently marked the centennial of its residency in the Bronx, has announced the establishment of a new School of Health Professions (SoHP) which will offer programs such as nursing, physical therapy, and health care informatics. In recent years, the need for skilled healthcare professionals in these fields has grown dramatically. SoHP, with the Lasallian foundation of faith, respect, education, community and social justice, is well positioned to prepare students for these transformative healthcare careers which require compassion, leadership skills, and professionalism. “By training the next generation of nurses, physical therapists, surgical technicians and other highly specialized health professionals, SoHP will continue the College’s tradition of providing service for the greater good,” said Br. Daniel Gardner, FSC, Manhattan College President. The new school will officially launch on July 1, 2023.
SoHP’s fall 2023 offerings will include existing undergraduate programs such as physical education, allied health, exercise science, nuclear medicine technology, radiation therapy technology, health care informatics and public health as well as graduate programs in therapy and counseling. A new nursing program will be launched in fall 2024, and there are plans for new programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy/audiology, surgical technology, and pharmacology.
The wide breadth of experiences available to Manhattan College’s students is also demonstrated by the recent opening of a new Entrepreneurship Center that is intended to serve as an intellectual and collaborative hub for entrepreneurship initiatives. “This is an incredibly important opportunity for any student who wants to turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality,” said Mr. Donald Gibson, Dean of the O’Malley School of Business. Experienced entrepreneurs, academic mentors, and faculty members will be available to work with students at the Center.
With so many exciting things happening on campus it is important to also note that Mr. Stephen J. Squeri ’81,’86 (MBA), chairman and CEO of American Express, has been named the new Board Chair of Manhattan College as of May 1st. Mr. Squeri will succeed Mr. Thomas O’Malley ’63.
I AM THRILLED THAT THE BROTHERS ARE STILL REACHING OUT TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE BECAUSE THEY WERE THERE.
FONDLY,
MARY ELLEN D’AGOSTINO (WIDOW OF FORMER BROTHER CORBINIAIN JOSEPH)
