Washington, DC – Ten Manhattan College students, led by Conor Reidy and Jacquie Martin in the office of Campus Ministry & Social Action (CMSA), traveled to Washington, D.C. from November 16-18 for the 22nd annual Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice. The group advocated for environmental and social justice issues such as climate change and immigration reform.
“We were thrilled to once again attend the annual Ignatian Family Teach-In in Washington D.C,” Reidy said. “We will continue to work together to explore what our Lasallian charism brings to these vital questions.”
It was Manhattan College’s fifth appearance at the annual Teach-In. The Manhattan College group of 10 was joined by 25 other representatives from Lasallian universities and agencies across the country.
Facilitated by Maureen O’Connell, Ph.D., and Brother Ernest Miller, both from La Salle University in Philadelphia, the Manhattan students collaborated with other Lasallian students and organizers to demonstrate the Lasallian tradition’s strong allegiance to social justice.
The cohort of Lasallian peers also met with U.S. Representative Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania to advocate and create plans of action for these specific issues. Rep. Lamb himself is familiar with the Lasallian tradition and its commitment to social justice, as he graduated from Central Catholic High School, a Lasallian school in Pittsburgh, Pa.
