Mr. Mark E. Brand, Chair – Board of Trustees – St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute
Mr. Mark E. Brand ’80 has served as the Chairman of the St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute Board of Trustees since 2006, a momentous period in the 149-year history of the school. During Mr. Brand’s chairmanship, St. Joe’s has successfully completed a record $13.4 million capital campaign, which funded the school’s on-campus, all-weather Robert T. Scott, AFSC Athletic Field Complex (2008), state-of-the-art Cullen Center for Excellence in Science (2009) and student endowment. Mr. Brand, while overseeing the Board’s 10 working committees – including the Executive Committee and newly-formed Enrollment Management Committee – has also been instrumental in the development of the school’s 5-year Strategic Plan.
“The strides that St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute has made under Mark’s and Rick Gilbert’s, his predecessor as chair and 1980 classmate, leadership are virtually unprecedented in our school’s history,” remarked St. Joe’s President/Principal Robert T. Scott, AFSC. Mark’s engaging personality, professional expertise and passion for St. Joe’s have directly resulted in our school being well-positioned to move forward into our sesquicentennial anniversary and beyond.”
Mr. Brand, a partner in Phillips Lytle LLP, one of Buffalo’s most esteemed law firms, will be succeeded as Chairman of the St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute Board of Trustees by Mr. Anthony J. Colucci III ’76.

Mr. Edward Barno, Chair – Board of Trustees – Chistian Brothers Academy
Ed Barno recently completed his term as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Christian Brothers of Syracuse, New York. From the perspective of a fellow Board Member, it was a remarkable and outstanding tenure, not just because Ed was the first non-graduate to occupy that position. During Ed’s leadership, and significantly through his extraordinary vision, the School has successfully completed a major Capital Campaign that resulted in substantial increases to the School’s endowment as well as magnificent athletic fields which provide a great setting for our many athletic participants. Ed’s wisdom and his gracious and inclusive style of leadership were critical to the many accomplishments and increased activities in the school community. Because of Ed’s vision and his perception of strategic planning, CBA remains ever present of its future needs. His financial acumen has enabled CBA to successfully navigate challenges attendant to planned capital improvements and the economy we all are experiencing. His patient yet firm style of leadership has continually benefited the Board’s relationship with the faculty, parents and CBA community as a whole.
But perhaps more significant that any of the above traits, Ed has been so generous in sharing his time, talent and treasure with CBA. Its is fair to state that all that community is extremely grateful to Ed for his thoughtful and caring nature. CBA has certainly been blessed to have Ed Barno as Chairman of the Board – he truly is an exceptional leader and person.
