“She’s very Lasallian,” was the response of Br. William Johnson, FSC, Principal of La Salle Academy, when asked to describe Kerry Conroy, the Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs.  Indeed, she demonstrates the sentiment through her dedication both to fostering a safe, nurturing learning environment and her own enrichment in the Lasallian mission.

Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Kerry worked as a Lasallian Volunteer in New York for 2 years and found the experience so rewarding she continued working in the community by taking an open guidance counselor position.  In 2005 she became the Director of La Salle Academy’s Guidance Department.  “When I first met her,” said Br. William of his time as Assistant Principal, “I recognized very quickly that she was very competent, very efficient, very student-centered in her interests.”  When Br. William became principal, Kerry was appointed Assistant Principal.

In addition to keeping the guidance department organized, Kerry works with students in the program “Student Sponsor Partnership,” which provides young people
with financial support and a mentor.  Kerry supervises social gatherings to make sure students and mentors meet on a regular basis.  In pursuit of higher learning, Kerry obtained a Professional Diploma in School Counseling from Manhattan College in 2006 and has attended the Lasallian Leadership Institute (LLI) and the Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies.

“All the work she did in guidance and the work she does now in the Assistant Principal position she does through a very thorough Lasallian viewpoint with the interest of the students and the faculty primarily in her work,” said Br. William.  He described her as compassionate and fair educator whom students feel they can come to with their problems.  “She is very committed to the Lasallian mission,” he said, “and has dedicated a significant part of her life not only to the La Salle Academy but to helping out in the Lasallian world as best she can.”
