Didymus Translates DLS Bio
In early 1963, St. Mary’s College Press (Winona, MN) is publishing for the first time the earliest extant biography of St. John Baptist de La Salle. Originally written by Dom Elie Maillefer, a Benedictine librarian and nephew of De La Salle, it was translated into English by Brother Didymus John (Quinn) of the Baltimore District. This 190-page volume can be ordered for $3.75 plus postage.

St. Louis & Chicago to Split
The northern section of the St. Louis District will split off and become its own district (the Winona District) in December 1963. The Chicago section will split off and do the same in 1966.

High Schools National Merit Impressive
Brothers’ high schools in the US performed quite well regarding National Merit semi-finalists. District-by-district numbers: St. Louis (25 from 13 schools); Baltimore (22 from 6 schools); New York (6 from 3 schools); LI-NE (5 from 4 schools); New Orleans-Santa Fe (4 from 3 schools); San Francisco (2 from 2 schools). Nationally, 64 of the 516 semi-finalists are from 77 Lasallian schools. Individual Lasallian school leaders: La Salle College HS (11), St. John’s, Washington (5), and CBA (Syracuse), CBHS (Memphis), Cretin (St. Paul, MN) and DLS HS (Minneapolis), 4 each.

John Neumann to Be Beatified
Venerable John Neumann, the fourth Bishop of Philadelphia and the man who brought the Christian Brothers to Philadelphia, will likely be beatified (declared “Blessed”) in June 1963.
