Father Jacques Marquette 300 Anniversary

220px-Pere_Marquette_closupJune 1 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth (1637-1937) of Father Jacques Marquette, S.J., the famed explorer—with Louis Joliet—of the upper Mississippi Valley. Interestingly, the French-language Institute Bulletin of July 1937 recognized Marquette in a paragraph, noting that he was a cousin of John Baptist de La Salle, “…par sa mere Rose de La Salle, originaire de Reims…”

New Orelans Celebrates 50 Years

On December 28, 1936, the St. Louis District celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of its novitiate at Glencoe, MO (near St. Louis).

St. Mary’s College (Moraga, CA) conferred an honorary degree upon Fulvio Suvich, the ambassador of Italy to the US. The precise occasion was not specified.
