New Lasallian Leaders Throughout the District

As we open the new school year, we note the number of good changes throughout. Please welcome our new leaders in Lasallian ministries throughout DENA.

 

Brother Michael Andrejko is a 1986 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended La Salle University where he received a B.S. in Business Administration in Accounting. He continued his education at Gwynedd-Mercy College where he received Certification in Secondary School Education and Villanova University where in 1998 he received a Master of Arts in Religious Studies.

Bro. Michael’s professional career began as a teacher of Business and Religion at La Salle College High School in 1990. From there, he moved to St. Gabriel’s Hall, Audubon, PA where he taught business mathematics, world religions, and accounting. From 1996 – 2000, Bro. Michael was a teacher at St. John’s College High School, where in addition to his teaching responsibilities, he was also the Student Council Moderator. Bro. Michael has served the past six years on St. John’s Board of Directors.

Bro. Michael has been a Brother of the Christian Schools for twenty-two years. His administrative experience stems from having been the Academic Vice-Principal at West Philadelphia Catholic High School from 2000-2007, his membership on various boards and committees for the Christian Brothers District of Eastern North America, as well as his being a Community Director in two of the Brothers’ communities which he has lived.

 

Dr. William Clyde is the new Executive Vice President and Provost of Manhattan College, effective July 1st. Since 2007, Clyde has served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Queens University, a private Presbyterian-affiliated institution located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Clyde’s work in strengthening Queens University’s institutional effectiveness led to the creation of the university’s office of institutional research and assessment, the center for academic success, which emphasizes student support and retention, and the center for excellence in teaching and learning. In addition, he has worked to raise dramatically the level of available technology resources on campus, including online registration and hybrid courses.

“Dr. Clyde brings to Manhattan an impressive depth and breadth of experience, a strong record of accomplishment as an educator and administrator, and a reputation for creative thinking in response to complex challenges,” says Dr. Brennan O’Donnell, President of Manhattan College. “His dedication to mission is evident through his work in support of a broad program of community outreach, service-learning, and international development projects.”

 

The Martin de Porres Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Edward Dana to serve as Chief Executive Officer. A recent graduate of the Buttimer Institute, a regional Lasallian formation program, Dr. Ed Dana brings to his new leadership position a deep commitment to the Lasallian Mission in service of the “Least, the Last, the Lost.”

“For over 20 years at MDP he [Dr. Dana] has been an advocate for the needs of children and families particularly in times of crisis,” said Brother Raymond Blixt, FSC, current C.E.O. of Martin De Porres, who will be stepping down at the end of the fiscal year.

Dr. Ed will be in a transitional period of training for this position during the 2010-2011 fiscal year. “He has formed a leadership team to assist him in continuing to allow MDP to creatively and passionately serve youngsters, young men and women and their families whom other schools and agencies have refused or failed to serve appropriately,” said Blixt.

As Martin de Porres services to young people most in need approaches 40 years of continuous dedicated commitment, the Board of Directors and Administration are confident that this leadership change will initiate a new era of faith and zeal in the best interests of all who will continue to be entrusted to their care.

 

After thirteen years as Director of Campus Ministry at La Salle Academy-Providence, Bishop for the Diocese of Providence, Thomas Tobin, appointed Ms. Maryann Donohue-Lynch, Principal of Saint Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. In a letter to parents of students at Saint Raphael’s, Dr. David M. Beaudoin, the Diocese’s Secretary for Catholic Education and Evangelization, wrote:

“Bishop Thomas J. Tobin appointed Maryann Donohue-Lynch to the position of Principal of Saint Raphael Academy. I introduced her to faculty and staff this morning (Aug. 26th). Mrs. Donohue-Lynch begins her tenure as Principal with much experience, expertise and passion for Catholic education. You will come to know her as a woman who is committed to providing your children with an excellent Catholic education.”

“We extend our congratulations to Maryann and a promise of our prayers and support as she assumes the leadership of the Lasallian ministry at SAINTS [St. Raphael’s Academy],” said Brother Michael McKenery, FSC, President of La Salle Academy-Providence, commending Ms. Donohue-Lynch on this important appointment. “Maryann has been a catalyst for so many good and wonderful accomplishments at La Salle Academy. Working with her team in Campus Ministry she has created programs that met the needs of our students and placed us in the forefront of schools with similar programs and experiences. Her involvement with Lasallian Youth and the many experiences of national leadership have brought great honor to La Salle. I thank her most especially for her care of the young men and women entrusted to our care. Her move is a loss for La Salle Academy but one of hope for Saint Raphael Academy.”

Earlier this year, Ms. Donohue-Lynch was also appointed to The District of Eastern North America’s Mission Executive Council, and is a graduate of the Buttimer Institute (2009), and Lasallian Leadership Institute (East Coast Cohort III). Maryann has also served on a number of planning committees, that promote leadership and community service for Lasallian High School students, most recently the UN Convocation on the Rights of the Child Planning Committee: 2009-2010; and the Lasallian Youth Summer Assembly Committee, 2010.

 

Martha Kendall has worked in Catholic education for more than 30 years. She has acquired vast career experience and expertise in the areas of institutional advancement, enrollment management, communications, board development and organizational planning.

After graduating from Spring Hill College, Ms. Kendall began her career working in college admissions and enrollment management for Spring Hill, St. Mary’s College Notre Dame, The University of Tulsa, and Mundelein College (Loyola University Chicago). In 1987 she returned to school, studying for a Masters Degree in Public Service Administration at DePaul University, where she also served as the Executive Assistant to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs at DePaul, and later became the Director of Development for the University’s Theatre and Music Schools.

In 1994, after moving to Queenstown, MD, Ms. Kendall became the Director of Development and Alumni at St. Mary’s Parish Schools, Annapolis, MD. She established a comprehensive development program implementing the first Annual Fund, creating endowed scholarship funds, improving alumni communications, and expanding the schools’ fundraising scope through the annual Auction & Dinner and the Spring Golf Tournament. She was responsible for increasing St. Mary’s Schools’ annual development revenue from $22,000 to $595,000. In 1999, Gunston Day School, Centreville, MD recruited Ms. Kendall to the position of Director of School Advancement. Her primary focus was to close the school’s $3.5 million capital campaign for which she was responsible for soliciting the school’s first million dollar gift.

Most recently, Ms. Kendall served as the Director of Institutional Advancement at Notre Dame Preparatory School, Towson, MD. In this role, she managed a comprehensive school Advancement Office with a staff of eight and was responsible for an annual fund, major gifts, events and grant writing program that during her tenure raised over $1.5 million each year.

As a volunteer, she co-founded Bosom Buddies Charities, Inc., a non- profit organization established to support breast cancer diagnostics and treatment. The organization has provided over $400,000 in funding to purchase a state-of-the-art digital mammography system for the Anne Arundel Medical Center, Kent Island facility. Ms. Kendall currently serves on the Board of Directors for Bosom Buddies Charities, Inc.; on the Board of Trustees for Sisters Academy of Baltimore; on the Advisory Committee of Saints Peter & Paul High School, Easton, MD; and as a member of the Leadership Council for the Mid-Atlantic Catholic Schools Consortium.

 

William Macatee was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Saint Louis University and later went on to get a masters in secondary education and a doctorate in educational administration from the University of San Francisco.

With over two dozen years of professional experience as a public and private school principal, Dr. Macatee offers a strong record of broad achievements in organizational change, program management, development and implementation of school-wide curricular/instructional systems, faculty and staff formation, professional development, student behavioral and counseling programs as well as emergency and evacuation procedures. His expertise in organizational and educational psychology has improved the quality of education for thousands of children and young adults throughout his career.

Dr. Macatee is not a stranger to New York or to Lasallian schools. He has nearly a decade of experience as a school administrator in the New York State School System, and 15 years of service as an administrator and teacher in private Catholic schools, including 4 years as assistant dean at De La Salle High School in Concord, California.

He has led and collaborated with unique teams of government and private organizations, county and school administrators, educators, counselors, parents, and students to create rich, rewarding, and results-oriented learning and work environments. In particular, his work has led to securing aid and assistance for students and families who demonstrate financial, social, emotional and educational needs.

 

 

Mr. Jeffrey Mancabelli became the 28th President of St. John’s College High School’s president on July 1, 2010. His appointment marked his 11th year of service to St. John’s, where he has served as, Teacher of Speech and Communications, Director of Summer School, Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs and nine years as Principal. Mancabelli is a member of the St. John’s Board of Trustees.

With a Bachelors’ degree in Business Management from the University of Scranton, a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership from The George Washington University, and additional studies at LaSalle University in Religious and Lasallian education, Jeff came to St. John’s from Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, Maryland as the Admissions Associate and Dean of the Resident School

Mancabelli graduated from the Lasallian Leadership Institute and has been a member of the East Coast Mission Council, member of Harvard Leadership Institute and member of District of Eastern North America Restructuring Project. Mancabelli is also a member of the Mission Executive Council for The District of Eastern North America and the Lasallian Association of Secondary Schools.

 

La Salle alumnus Joseph R. Marbach, Ph.D., has been named the University’s new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Marbach comes to La Salle from Seton Hall University where he last served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He assumed his new position on August 2nd.

Since being named Dean at Seton Hall in 2006, Marbach developed and implemented a strategic plan for the College of Arts and Sciences that focused on enhancing and supporting undergraduate education; expanding, promoting and strengthening graduate education; and establishing a presence in the local community while expanding international programs.

During his 16 years at Seton Hall, Marbach served in various positions including Chair of the Department of Political Science, Acting Chair for the Africana Studies Department, and Co-director of the Center for Community Research and Engagement (formerly the Institute for Service Learning).

“I am delighted to have Joe join the La Salle University community,” said Brother Michael J. McGinniss, F.S.C., Ph.D., President of La Salle University. “He brings a commitment to strategic planning and its connection to the University’s mission, experience in relationship building with faculty and staff, familiarity with Catholic higher education, and a track record of program development, fiscal responsibility, fundraising, and service to society.”

 

Dr. Richard Satterlee is the new Vice President for Student Life at Manhattan College, effective July 1st. Satterlee has served in the position of Assistant Vice President for Student Development at Loyola University of Maryland since July 2001.

Satterlee has extensive experience in integrated learning communities, student judicial matters, crisis response, and facilities programming and planning, having served as his division’s coordinator for Loyola’s Fitness and Aquatics Center, its recent expansion of its student center and first-year residence halls, and its recently completed athletic complex. During his time at Loyola, he has demonstrated leadership in a broad range of areas, including strategic planning and personnel development.

“Dr. Satterlee is a strong and eloquent advocate of Catholic higher education and has firmly established himself at Loyola as a leader in developing a campus culture that is conducive to the education of the whole student – in mind, body and spirit,” says Dr. Brennan O’Donnell, President of Manhattan College.

 

The road back to Manhattan College is part of an extensive and varied career for Brother James Wallace, FSC. His numerous roles as educator, Director, Headmaster, Vice Principal, Academic Dean, and Auxiliary Visitor, both here and in our ministries in Africa make Brother James no stranger to the word Mission, as he steps into his role as Vice President for Mission at the college.

With his Baccalaureate from the prestigious Catholic University, Masters in Education from Canisius College, and Doctorate from Syracuse University, coupled with just some of his experiences at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and Christian Brothers Academy in western New York, La Salle Institute, Troy, and overseas at diverse ministries such as St. Brendan’s School and La Salle College in South Africa, and the Christian Brothers Lwanga District Scholasticate and Provincialate in Nairobi, Kenya, Brother James is a strong and welcome Lasallian presence on Manhattan’s administrative team.
