New York, NY – The Board of Trustees of La Salle Academy New York is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Catherine Guerriero as President effective July 1, 2014. Dr. Guerriero will begin her full-time transition on May 1st.

A fifth-generation New Yorker and a resident of the Lower East Side with her husband and four-year-old daughter, Annarose, Dr. Guerriero has been a professor at both New York University and Columbia University for almost fifteen years. She won Outstanding Faculty Honors at Teachers College twice and was the recipient of New York University’s Martin Luther King Faculty Award, a university-wide honor given to faculty each year. The daughter of two teachers, Dr. Guerriero is passionate about all things educational in the ever evolving New York City, having received her PhD in Educational Administration and her Masters in Public Administration from New York University. Dr. Guerriero went to Wagner College on Staten Island on a full basketball scholarship and graduated cum laude as Student Athlete of the Year. Dr. Guerriero was the Valedictorian at Sacred Heart Grammar School on Staten Island as well.

LSANYCA recent candidate for city-wide office in New York City, Dr. Guerriero ran for Public Advocate as a faith-based candidate with hundreds of endorsements, including pastoral leaders of all faiths, dozens of unions, and other community organizations. She arrives at La Salle Academy also following a successful planning consultancy in NY for small business owners and non-profits. Dr. Guerriero worked tirelessly for the Archdiocese of New York for many years, as both the Director of Strategic Planning and the Associate Director of the Papal Visit in 2008, as well as the Director of Government Relations for Catholic Charities. She also has government experience, working for the NYC Comptroller as a Senior Policy Analyst.

Dr. Guerriero is a driven, motivating leader and an outstanding public speaker who has dedicated her life to the core principals espoused by St. John Baptist de La Salle. The Lasallian family of DENA welcomes Dr. Guerriero as she joins  La Salle Academy’s over 165-year tradition of educational excellence to move the mission onwards and upwards.
