Chicago, IL – A tradition in the Midwest District involves gathering the Brothers of the District to observed the Triduum together. This annual experience of prayer and fraternity occurs at Mundelein Seminary a venue named for George Mundelein, an alumnus of Manhattan College (Class of 1889) and Cardinal Archbishop of Chicago (1915-1939). The members of the novitiate community participated in the retreat time and DENA Brothers Paul Avvento, Steven Barbaro, and Stephen Olert appreciated the opportunity. See the accompanying photo of our three confreres.

The Cardinal was an alum of LSA, NYC ’86 or so as was Patrick Cardinal Hayes, laterCardinal Abp of NY, within a year of him- hence the team name’The Cardinals’- not the bird then.
Cardinal Mundelein as Auxiliary Bp of Brooklyn built the magnificent Queen of All Saints Churtch & enclosed school on Lafayette Ave and Vanderbilt Ave in 1913 in the fashionable Clinton Hill neighborhood – now across from our own 1933 Bishop Loughlin MHS. 37 lge statues adorn the exterior w/DLS overlooking the modest school yard. The Church interior was modeled on La Sainte Chapelle, Paris- with outstanding stained glass.
