October 11 was chosen as the Feast Day of St. Pope John XXIII because that was the date in 1962 when he opened the Second Vatican Council. Lasallians should know that before he was elected to the papacy with the name of John XXIII, Bishop Angelo Roncalli became an Affiliated (Honorary) Christian Brother (AFSC) on April 23, 1936, because of his varied connections with the Institute up to that time.
